Incorrect penalty decisions were made by the video assistant referee in all three of Thursday’s games, the Premier League has told BBC Match of the Day. Bruno Fernandes won a spot-kick which he scored in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa.

American Noah Lyles briefly appeared to have set an astonishing new 200m world record of 18.90 seconds in the Inspiration Games, before it was revealed he ran only 185m. Lyles’ time would have obliterated the 19.19-second mark set by Jamaican great Usain Bolt back in 2009.

Former Ivory Coast forward Salomon Kalou has bid farewell to Hertha Berlin after six years with the German club. He been suspended since the start of May for filming himself breaking social-distancing regulations in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Lazio defender Patric has been given a four-match ban and fined 10,000 euros for biting Lecce’s Giulio Donati during Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat. Patric, 27, was shown a straight red card for the offence in injury time during the Serie A game. The Spanish full-back will miss second-placed Lazio’s meeting with leaders Juventus on 20 July.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to secure Paul Pogba’s long-term future at Old Trafford. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, it had appeared that the France midfielder was set to leave United this summer. The 27-year-old World Cup winner has been linked with moves to both his former club Juventus and Real Madrid.

Barcelona kept alive their hopes of winning La Liga with a victory over Espanyol at the Nou Camp that also relegated the visitors. Both sides had a player sent off early in the second half after video assistant referee reviews. Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati was dismissed for a foul on Fernando Calero before Pol Lozano was red carded for a dangerous tackle.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s penalty sparked a remarkable AC Milan comeback victory against title-chasing Juventus at the San Siro. After an uneventful first half, Milan scored four unanswered second-half goals having gone 2-0 down to Juve strikes from Adrien Rabiot and Cristiano Ronaldo.

A Swedish referee suspended for making racist remarks against Guinea international goalkeeper Aly Keita says his career is ‘effectively’ over. Speaking to a Swedish newspaper, Martin Strombergsson regretted remarks made to Keita in a top-flight match last year.

Manager Jose Mourinho brought up his 200th Premier League victory as Tottenham edged past Everton – though home players Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-min had to be separated by team-mates during the match. A tepid contest threatened to boil over as the teams left the pitch at half-time when Spurs skipper Lloris ran over and shoved Son in the back.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he is struggling to understand why his side have lost nine Premier League games this season. City lost 1-0 at Southampton on Sunday – a third straight away league defeat. It is the first time in his career that Guardiola has overseen such a run, while nine losses is the most the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has ever had in a single campaign.

The Egyptian Premier League will resume on 7 August after almost five months of being suspended due to coronavirus, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced. The season will commence its schedule in two phases starting with the postponed games, head of the Competitions Committee Hossam El-Zanati said in a statement published on the EFA’s website.

Inter Milan have signed defender Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid on a five-year deal. The Morocco full-back, 21, made just 17 appearances for Real and has spent the last two seasons on loan at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Sergio Ramos’ penalty sent Real Madrid four points clear at the top of La Liga with a hard-fought win over Getafe. Real looked as if they were going to be frustrated until Mathias Olivera fouled Dani Carvajal, with Ramos stepping up to score his 21st consecutive penalty.

Leroy Sane says Bayern Munich is a “great club with big goals” after he signed a five-year contract at the Bundesliga side. The Germany winger, 24, has joined from Manchester City in a deal that could be worth £54.8m. Sane joined City from Schalke in 2016 for £37m and won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups.
