AFCON Memories: The Super Eagles of 1994….

In far away Tunisia, the Super Eagles of Nigeria won the 1994 African Cup of Nations. This would be Nigeria’s second continental title. Drawn in Group B, Nigeria deated Gabon by 2-0 in their first game before playing a 0-0 draw with Egypt in the last group game. The Super Eagles defeated Zaire (now Congo DR) by 2-0 in the quarter finals. Nigeria would go on to win Cote d’Ivoire 4-2 (penalty shoot out) in the semi finals after the game had ended 2-2 after extra time. Nigeria beat Zambia 2-1 in the final game to lift the trophy. The Super Eagles were each given MON (Member of the Order of the Niger) award and also given (or is it promised?) a house each in Abuja.
