Alonso getting better after crash….

Fernando Alonso

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso is making a “solid recovery” just a day after his crash in Formula 1 testing. His McLaren team also revealed he had undergone a “thorough and complete analysis” and the results were “completely normal”. They added the accident was down to unpredictable “gusty winds” and there was “no evidence” his car suffered “mechanical failure of any kind”. The Spaniard, 33, is being kept in hospital for further observation. A photo of a smiling Alonso sitting up in his hospital bed was also posted on social media by his manager. It was accompanied by the message: “Lunch time! Thank you for your support!” Alonso suffered concussion after hitting the wall on the exit of a right-hand turn at the Circuit de Catalunya. Cars can reach speeds of 150mph at that point on the track, although Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who was following Alonso at the time of the crash, said his rival’s speed was more like 90mph.

CR7 now third in Real Madrid’s all time scorers….

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo moved up to third on Real Madrid’s all-time top scorers list after he found the net in a comfortable away victory over Elche in La Liga, BBC reports. The Portugal forward scored the 290th goal of his Madrid career to climb above Carlos Santillana and is now 33 goals behind Raul’s record of 323. Karim Benzema had put Real ahead with a scrappy opening goal before Ronaldo powerfully headed in a second. Real’s advantage over Barcelona at the top of La Liga is now four points. Real Madrid had claimed on their website that Ronaldo reached the 290-goal milestone  in their Champions League last-16 tie against Schalke on 18 February. However, La Liga officially awarded a goal that the club had credited to Ronaldo in a game against Real Sociedad in September 2010, to Portuguese compatriot Pepe. Coming into the game against Elche, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real side were seeking to capitalise on Barca’s 1-0 home loss to Malaga on Saturday, in the Italian’s 100th game in charge.

West Ham players protest to referee Craig Pawson

West Ham have been fined £30,000 by the Football Association for failing to control their players in their recent 0-0 draw at Southampton, BBC reports. The sanction relates to an incident which followed the dismissal of West Ham goalkeeper Adrian for handling the ball outside his penalty area. The red card was subsequently overturned on appeal. West Ham admitted a charge of failing to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion. Adrian was sent off by referee Craig Pawson for the first time in his career after losing possession under pressure from Southampton striker Sadio Mane and falling on the ball. The Spaniard, 28, appeared to touch the ball with a hand to prompt the red card which was met with protests from a number of West Ham players.
