A Swedish referee suspended for making racist remarks against Guinea international goalkeeper Aly Keita says his career is ‘effectively’ over. Speaking to a Swedish newspaper, Martin Strombergsson regretted remarks made to Keita in a top-flight match last year.

Manager Jose Mourinho brought up his 200th Premier League victory as Tottenham edged past Everton – though home players Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-min had to be separated by team-mates during the match. A tepid contest threatened to boil over as the teams left the pitch at half-time when Spurs skipper Lloris ran over and shoved Son in the back.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says he is struggling to understand why his side have lost nine Premier League games this season. City lost 1-0 at Southampton on Sunday – a third straight away league defeat. It is the first time in his career that Guardiola has overseen such a run, while nine losses is the most the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has ever had in a single campaign.

The Egyptian Premier League will resume on 7 August after almost five months of being suspended due to coronavirus, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has announced. The season will commence its schedule in two phases starting with the postponed games, head of the Competitions Committee Hossam El-Zanati said in a statement published on the EFA’s website.

Inter Milan have signed defender Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid on a five-year deal. The Morocco full-back, 21, made just 17 appearances for Real and has spent the last two seasons on loan at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Sergio Ramos’ penalty sent Real Madrid four points clear at the top of La Liga with a hard-fought win over Getafe. Real looked as if they were going to be frustrated until Mathias Olivera fouled Dani Carvajal, with Ramos stepping up to score his 21st consecutive penalty.

Leroy Sane says Bayern Munich is a “great club with big goals” after he signed a five-year contract at the Bundesliga side. The Germany winger, 24, has joined from Manchester City in a deal that could be worth £54.8m. Sane joined City from Schalke in 2016 for £37m and won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups.

Former Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has had his contract at Paraguayan club Olimpia terminated by mutual consent.

Manchester United’s Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez have extended their loan deals at Roma and Inter Milan respectively until the end of the Italian season. England defender Smalling, 30, and Chile forward Sanchez, 31, have been playing in Serie A since August.

Real Madrid have finally launched their own women’s team – a decision hailed as a huge positive. Los Blancos completed a 300,000 euros buyout of Madrid-based club Tacon, which has now been officially renamed Real Madrid Femenino.

Super Falcons star, Desire Oparanozie on Tuesday signed for French side Dijon, according to a statement from the club. The Nigerian who had spent six years with Guingamp, another club in France, sealed a two-year deal with Dijon.

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed to January 2022 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, while the women’s version of the tournament has been cancelled. The men’s tournament had been set to take place in January next year.

Manchester City have agreed to sell winger Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich in a deal that could earn them £54.8m. The Germany international will join the Bundesliga champions for an initial fee of about £44.7m, with add-ons which could increase it by more than £10m.
