Against the permutations of naysayers, Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi today appeared as a substitute for Everton in their 5-2 win against West Brom.
This is contrary to the rumor that he has fallen out of favor and would not likely get a chance to play anymore given the arrival of players like James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan. Some said his not making the bench in Everton’s first two games of the season is an indication that he has been frozen out and must be on his way out. Yesterday, genuine news emerged from the Toffees dressing room that Iwobi had been injured and was now ready for selection. This was the true situation as he made the bench and got some minutes in the game. Granted, Alex has not particularly shined for Everton since joining from Arsenal last season but in fairness, who has? Now that coach Carlo Ancelotti seem to be getting Everton flying, we at Naija Sports Crib are backing Alex Iwobi the Super Eagle to go ahead and shine like we know he can do. Good coach means good fortunes some say. This seem to be true for Everton as coach Ancelotti has attracted some new players that may hitherto not have given Everton a look in. The old players too are getting confident. Today, Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit a first career hat-trick. Good omen? Good luck to them.
