Daryl Dike has become a sensation in the EFL Championship since arriving at Barnsley FC in February on loan from Orlando City SC.
The Nigerian-American striker scored an overhead kick against Huddersfield on matchday 43 to give his team the 1-0 victory and the three points. This is a great result for Barnsley as they are making a run into the Premier League. With this result Barnsley is in sixth place with 74 points and a record of 22-8-13. The 20-year-old United States striker netted his ninth goal of the season in 19 appearances. His loan with the Championship side will come to an end on 31 May, but if they return to the Premier League the bosses could consider making the move permanent. The Tykes are in the final playoff spot in the Championship with only three games left of the regular season. They could still end in third or fourth place and could face Bournemouth, Swansea City or Brentford in a semifinal game. Their next rivals are Rotherham United, Preston North End and already promoted Norwich City, who are in first place and a guaranteed spot in next year’s Premier League season. Due to the breakout season Daryl Dike is having in his short time with the Tykes, several Premier League clubs have shown some interest in paying his $20 million clause established by Orlando City SC. Everton and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing him if Barnsley fails to return to the English top tier league.
Dike’s older siblings have all played for Nigeria. Bright Dike played for the Super Eagles and narrowly missed the world cup squad in 2014 while Courtney Dike is involved with the Super Falcons. She played in the U-20 and Women’s world cup for Nigeria.
