The father of Liverpool target Marko Grujic says he is resisting a move to Anfield, despite the clubs agreeing a £5million transfer. Goran Grujic believes his son has been forced out of Red Star Belgrade as the Serbian club need the money and is refusing to allow the transfer to go through. Red Star have accepted Liverpool’s offer, which included loaning the player back until the end of the season for a return fee of £730,000.
The 19-year-old, who was part of Serbia Under 20’s World Cup winning side, was due on Merseyside on Wednesday to undergo medicals ahead of signing off his contract, however, Goran said: ‘I won’t allow them to destroy my boy! ‘I’m speaking about people who are in charge of the club (Red Star Belgrade). Everyone turned their back on them, as they’ve spent all the money the club has had, and they see a solution in Marko’s transfer. ‘That’s why there’s so much pressure on him. Ten times per day they are calling him by phone, urging him to sign a contract. ‘There are (their) stories in Serbian media, like ”Gerrard’s No 8 is waiting for him”, or ”Klopp called him by phone”, ”millions here, millions there”.
