Liverpool vs Sevilla, Europa League final: Divock Origi makes 22-man squad for Reds' trip to Basel

Liverpool have been handed a massive boost ahead of their Europa League final clash against Sevilla after Divock Origi returned to the first-team following his recovery from an ankle surgery. The striker has travelled with Jurgen Klopp’s 22-man team to Basel where they will try to deny the La Liga club a third consecutive Europa League crown. According to the Liverpool Echo, the Belgium international came through unscathed in Monday’s training session and will be included in the final 18-man squad on match day. Origi is likely to start on the substitutes’ bench with Daniel Sturridge leading the line as they look to seal a place in next season’s Champions League and win their first trophy under Klopp.

The former Lille forward has found his best form under the German coach and has played a key role in bringing Liverpool to the final of the second-tier European club competition. He was instrumental during their quarter-final win over Borussia Dortmund, but missed their last four clash against Villarreal. He is desperate to be involved in the final, and declared himself fit ahead of the Reds’ final Premier League clash against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday (15 May). Origi was stretchered off during the Merseyside derby on 21 April following a crunching tackle from defender Ramiro Funes Mori, with fears of him being sidelined for the rest of the season. The striker, however, has refused to give up and has returned earlier than scheduled, which will also be positive news for Marc Wilmots ahead of their Euro 2016 campaign.¬†Apart from Origi, Jordan Henderson has also made the trip to Basel after making a comeback during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns, but is unlikely to feature from the start, which will see James Milner lead the team out at St Jakob-Park on Wednesday night ( 18 May).
