Alan Shearer has received a CBE from Prince William at Buckingham Palace. The former Newcastle and England captain was given the award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his charity work. Shearer has set up his own Foundation to fund the a Disability centre in the North East and has continued to work alongside charities such as NSPCC and Sport Relief. He was awarded an OBE in 2001 for his services to football and was at Buckingham Palace to receive the honour from the Duke of Cambridge on Tuesday. “Very honoured and proud to receive my CBE today in recognition of my charity work. Thank you to everyone who supports me,” he posted on Twitter.
