As the Super Eagles of Nigeria prepare to face Ukraine in a friendly game on Tuesday September 10, some players that were called up for the game have excused themselves from the game for various reasons. Captain Ahmed Musa is the latest to join the group of injured players. Before him, Tyronne Ebuehi and Wilfred Ndidi had pulled out because of injuries.
On the other hand, Henry Onyekuru and Kenneth Omeruo who both joined new clubs excused themselves as they are still occupied with the processes of securing resident and work permits respectively. Making a trip now to join the Nigerian team will not augur well for both of them. In place of the absentees, Coach Gernot Rohr has called up Club Brugge’s forward Dennis Bonaventure, Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo and Bordeaux forward, Josh Maja. These replacements join Dusseldorf goalkeeper Maduka Okoye as the new invitees who will be aiming to make their Super Eagles debuts against Andriy Shevchenko’s men. A replacement may still be called up for Musa. The Nigeria versus Ukraine friendly will be placed at the Dnipro Arena where defender William Troost-Ekong is expected to now lead the team out. The game will be the first match the Super Eagles will be playing after winning the third-place match against Tunisia at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Kick off time is 7:30 Nigerian time (WAT or GMT+1).
