The Olympic athlete was jailed for five years in 2014 for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Under South African law he is eligible for release under “correctional supervision” having served a sixth of his sentence. A state appeal against his acquittal on murder charges is due in November.

The 22-year-old has agreed personal terms with Liverpool and will move to Anfield on 1 July. As he was out of contract and under 24, Burnley will be entitled to compensation. Danny Ings is Liverpool’s second signing of the summer after agreeing a deal for Manchester City midfielder James Milner. Ings has nine caps for England under-21s, with four goals to date and will represent his country at the Under-21 European Championship.

Warri Wolves out of CAF Confederations Cup….

Warri Wolves are out of the CAF Confederation Cup after they lost 4-3 on aggregate to AC Leopards of Congo to miss out of the group stage. The Seasiders made their work cut out after they lost 3-0 in Dolise, Congo in the first leg and all efforts to even the tie dried up after they were held to a goalless draw in the first half of the second leg tie played at the Warri City Stadium on Saturday. The Warri match ended 3 -1 in favour of Wolves. Gbolahan Salami scored twice for the Seasiders but Azubuike Egwuekwe’s own goal for the visitors halted whatever comeback Warri Wolves had in mind. Oghenekaro Etebo did score Warri Wolves’ third goal in the dying minute of the match but it only turned out to be a mere consolation as they needed two more goals at that time to nurture any hope of a place in the group stage. For the second season in a row, no Nigerian club has made it to the group stage of any CAF club competition. Sad.

Russia and Qatar may lose World Cups….

Russia and Qatar could lose the 2018 and 2022 World Cups respectively if evidence emerges of bribery, leading FIFA official Domenico Scala has said. The countries deny wrongdoing in their bidding processes and Scala admits he has not seen evidence of corruption. Scala is the head of FIFA’s audit and compliance committee. He said: “Should there be evidence that the awards to Qatar and Russia came only because of bought votes, then the awards could be cancelled.” Speaking to Swiss newspaper Sonntagszeitung,  he added: “Until today, the respective evidence has not been provided.” Scala made similar comments at the end of 2013 but in light of events at FIFA in the past two weeks this will be viewed as a more serious warning. Seven senior FIFA officials were arrested last month in high-profile dawn raids at a Zurich hotel, where they had been staying ahead of their presidential election. They are among 14 people charged by US prosecutors, who allege they accepted bribes and kickbacks estimated at more than $150m (£100m) over a 24-year period. Swiss authorities have also launched a separate criminal investigation into how the 2018 and 2022 World Cups were allocated. Sepp Blatter, FIFA president since 1998, was re-elected at the Zurich meeting but announced four days later that he would resign amid the corruption allegations engulfing the organisation,

Togo coach axes Adebayor from squad….

Emmanuel Adebayor

Togo coach Tom Saintfiet has removed captain Emmanuel Adebayor from the squad to face Ghana in an international friendly on Monday. Saintfiet said Adebayor and two other Togo players – Kossi Agassa and Floyd Ayite – had shown a lack of discipline after they failed to join up with the squad on time as they prepared for their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next weekend. “I have no problem with the players as individuals,” Saintfiet told BBC Sport from Accra. “It’s their choice not to come to the hotel, not to be part of the group, and that makes the choice for me very easy to say these players are now not able to be part of the national team. “We ask only to be as one team together, to prepare us for these important games,” Saintfiet explained. Togo take on Liberia in Lome on Sunday 14 June in a Group A fixture that marks the start of their qualifying campaign for the 2017 Nations Cup finals. The fixture against Ghana on Monday will be a big test for Togo against the recent Nations Cup runners-up as they prepare for the Liberia game. The absence of Tottenham striker Adebayor, Stade de Reims goalkeeper Agassa and Bastia midfielder Ayite will be a big loss for Togo but Saintfiet claims he was left with little choice saying all three players were absent for much of last week. “Floyd Ayite and [Kossi] Agassa were only one time in training and Emmanuel [Adebayor] came twice, but for the rest of the time I never saw him. “So I’m very sad about that because these three players were in my squad of 23, they are important players for the country and I was looking forward to working with them. “But if they are not able to be part of it and commit to the national team as all the other players – and we have many more players who play in Europe – the rules are the same for everyone.” Despite removing all three players from the squad, Saintfiet – who previously coached Ethiopia, Namibia and Malawi – insists the trio have not been suspended and could still have a future with Togo. “At the moment they are not part of it, but they have not been suspended and I have no problem with them. The doors are never closed for me because these are players with exceptional quality.

Wawrinka wins French Open….

Stan Wawrinka

Stanislas Wawrinka stunned Novak Djokovic to win his first French Open title and thwart the world number one’s career Grand Slam hopes. The Swiss eighth seed played magnificently in a 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 victory at Roland Garros. Wawrinka, 30, brought an end to Djokovic’s 28-match winning streak as he claimed his second Grand Slam title. Djokovic had been hoping to become the eighth man to complete the set of all four major titles. The 28-year-old Serb had been a strong favourite to finally get his hands on the Coupe des Mousquetaires after beating nine-time champion Rafael Nadal and third seed Andy Murray, but he was outplayed by Wawrinka. “It was an incredible atmosphere on court and I felt emotion like I never have before,” said Wawrinka. “I would like to thank my coach Magnus Norman. You played in the final without winning but this victory is yours as well as mine.” Djokovic was effusive in his praise for the new champion: “There are things that are more important in life than victories and that is character and respect – Stan you are a great champion with big heart.” The victory makes Wawrinka only the second Swiss to win at Roland Garros after Roger Federer, the man he beat in the quarter-finals.

Togo coach frustrated with Adebayor….

Emmanuel Adebayor

New Togo coach Tom Saintfiet has accused captain Emmanuel Adebayor of a lack of discipline after the Tottenham striker failed to join up with the squad on time ahead of their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next weekend. “I saw him on Wednesday and Friday but he is not at the hotel,” Saintfiet told a news conference in Lome on Friday. The Belgian-born coach was speaking before they departed Togo for their friendly in Ghana on Monday. “He is among the important players for the team but I cannot work with them when they are not in the squad. They should have the same discipline as others.” Togo take on Liberia in Lome on Sunday 14 June in a Group A fixture that marks the start of their qualifying campaign for the 2017 Nations Cup finals. Adebayor’s club Tottenham Hotspur gave him compassionate leave twice last season to return to Africa to deal with a personal family feud that the striker has discussed on social media. Two other key Togo players, goalkeeper Kossi Agassa from French club Stade de Reims and midfielder Floyd Ayite from Bastia, had also not yet joined up with the squad for preparations, Saintfiet added. “To me, discipline is very important in life. And that’s what I am already trying to impregnate in the team. “Discipline is important both for the players, the staff, etc. Discipline is everything to me. All players must be proud to be selected and accept the rules. I want each player to know it’s special to be selected for his country. “I have no problem with any player. Already I do not know everyone yet so I cannot begin to know who is who and who does what. “Since we assembled on Sunday, I’m happy to have those who are there,” he added.

Barcelona win 5th Champions League trophy….

Barcelona celebrate

Barcelona won the Champions League trophy for the 5th time and also completed a treble with a 3-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League final. Barca, who had already won the Spanish title and the Copa Del Rey, won their second Treble in six years, becoming the first team to ever do it twice. Ivan Rakitic gave Barca the lead very early on only for Alvaro Morata to equalise against the run of play. But Barca were not to be denied as Luis Suarez put them back in front and Neymar scored the third with the last kick of the game. Andres Iniesta won the man of the match for the final game which was also the last game that club legend Xavi will be playing for Barca.

Serena Williams wins 20th Grand Slam title….

Serena Williams

Serena Williams won a dramatic French Open final against Czech 13th seed Lucie Safarova to claim her 20th Grand Slam title. The American, ranked number one, needed two hours and one minute to win 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-2 at Roland Garros. Safarova, playing her first Grand Slam final, led by a break in the decider but Williams won the last six games. The 33-year-old becomes the third player – male or female – to win 20 major singles titles. Only Germany’s Steffi Graf on 22 has won more since the open era began in 1968, with Australia’s Margaret Court collecting 24 between 1960 and 1973. Victory at Wimbledon in July would see Williams hold all four major titles at once, having managed the feat already in 2003.

Djokovic goes into French Open final….

Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic saw off a thrilling fightback from Andy Murray to win their French Open semi-final in five sets. The world number one resumed leading by two sets to one and with the match 3-3 in the fourth after a storm had halted play on Friday evening. Murray took the fourth set on Saturday’s resumption but Djokovic came through 6-3 6-3 5-7 5-7 6-1. The 28-year-old Serb will face Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka in the final on Sunday. Djokovic has now won 28 matches in a row, and another victory would make him only the eighth man to complete the set of all four Grand Slam titles. His hopes were threatened for the first time on Friday evening as Murray launched a stirring comeback, and the top seed looked in real danger when the Briton grabbed the fourth set on Saturday. “I’m very glad that I managed to finish this match as a winner,” said Djokovic. “I was hoping I can do it before, but I don’t think I have done too much wrong, even today in the fourth. He just came up with some great shots, great points.” Murray said: “Last night before we came off the crowd were really into it and it was a good atmosphere. I was obviously motivated to come out today and try to turn the match around. “I played a loose game on my serve the first game of the [final] set with the new balls. I missed I think three balls long in that game. “Then I think Novak relaxed a little bit after that and he hit the ball extremely accurate.”

Tom Cleverley joins Everton….

Everton will sign Tom Cleverley on a five-year deal when his contract expires at Manchester United on 1 July. The 25-year-old England midfielder will become Roberto Martinez’s first signing of the summer. Cleverley made 38 Premier League appearances last season, 37 of those during a season-long loan for Aston Villa. “We are extremely delighted to be welcoming Tom Cleverley to Everton and I can think of many reasons as to why our fans will enjoy Tom representing our football club,” says Everton boss Roberto Martinez. “The most important one is that he is a perfect fit for what we are trying to build here as he has so much experience of playing in the Premier League and he still has his best years just ahead of him. “At the age of 25 and a player who is representing his country, Tom has experienced winning trophies and having big roles in demanding teams. Having worked with him previously, I know the type of character he is and I know that, with the Everton fans’ support, we will get a very special footballer joining our already exciting team.”
