The 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo have been thrown into further doubt after Canada became the first major country to withdraw. Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, has admitted for the first time that the games could be postponed. Australia’s team has said it is “clear” the games cannot go ahead, and told its athletes to prepare for a 2021 games.
Two Nigerian footballers – international striker Ifeanyi George and Emmanuel Ogbu – have been killed in a car crash in Abudu that also claimed the life of a third person. The pair, who played for Nigerian league side Enugu Rangers, were involved in a crash on the Benin-Agbor road whilst travelling to Lagos on Sunday morning.
Former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has confirmed that he has tested positive for coronavirus. In a post on Twitter, the 32-year-old, who is now at Chinese club Shandong Luneng said he hopes “to return to the game as soon as possible”.
Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz died on Saturday after being taken to hospital with coronavirus. Sanz, 76, was president at the Bernabeu from 1995-2000, a period in which Real won the Champions League twice. “My father has just died,” wrote Sanz’s son Lorenzo Sanz Duran on Twitter.
