Orlando Pride withdraws from tournament after six positive tests….

Orlando Pride have withdrawn from the NWSL Challenge Cup after six of their players tested positive for Covid-19. Pride, whose squad includes six-time world player of the year Marta and a host of US internationals, were due to compete in the nine-team tournament, starting on 27 July in Utah.

Burnley ashamed by banner flown above Etihad Stadium….

Burnley are “ashamed and embarrassed” by a banner reading ‘White Lives Matter Burnley’ that was towed by an aeroplane over Etihad Stadium during Monday’s match against Manchester City. The aircraft circled over the stadium just after kick-off in City’s 5-0 win. Burnley and City players and staff had taken a knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement moments earlier. “Fans like that don’t deserve to be around football,” Clarets skipper Ben Mee said.

Ronaldo scores in Juventus away win….

Cristiano Ronaldo scored as Juventus resumed their Serie A title defence with victory at mid-table Bologna. Juve, who have won the past eight titles, are four points clear of Lazio, who visit Atalanta on Wednesday. Ronaldo gave Juve the lead with a penalty after Matthijs de Ligt was fouled by Stefano Denswil.

Saudi FA writes to major sports bodies after WTO report….

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has written to major sports bodies acknowledging it has a “responsibility” to help fight broadcasting piracy. In what could be a highly significant attempt to reassure its critics and break the deadlock over the country’s controversial takeover of Newcastle United, the governing body insists it “understands the need to protect and respect intellectual property rights”.

Neymar ordered to pay Barcelona 6.7m euros….

Paris St-Germain forward Neymar must pay 6.7m euros to former club Barcelona, a Spanish court has ruled. The Brazil international claimed he was owed 43.6m euros in loyalty bonuses by Barcelona, who he left in August 2017. A judge ruled in favour of the La Liga side but 28-year-old Neymar, who filed the lawsuit shortly after the transfer, can appeal against the decision.

Chelsea agree to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig….

Chelsea have agreed to sign Timo Werner from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal. The forward, 24, has agreed personal terms with the Blues and, subject to passing a medical, will join in July after the German league season ends. Werner, who joined Leipzig from Stuttgart in 2016, has scored 32 goals in all competitions so far this season.

Before Joshua can meet Tyson Fury in an undisputed heavyweight championship fight in 2021, with financial terms already agreed, he must make a mandatory defence against Pulev which has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

World 100m champion provisionally suspended for missing drug tests….

World 100m champion Christian Coleman has been provisionally suspended after missing a third doping test. The American, 24, has disputed the third whereabouts failure, on 9 December, which has been confirmed by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). He claims he was Christmas shopping “five minutes away” from home and the tester made no effort to contact him.
