UEFA punishes Lazio for fan’s racist behavior….

Lazio’s stadium will be partly closed for their Europa League game against Celtic next month as punishment for racist behaviour by their fans. It is the first sanction announced by UEFA since European football’s governing body said the “football family” must “wage war on the racists”.

The president of the Bulgaria Football Union, Borislav Mihaylov, has resigned. Bulgaria Prime Minister Boyko Borissov called for him to quit on Tuesday after the racist abuse of England players in the Euro 2020 qualifier in Sofia. Monday’s match, which England won 6-0, was stopped twice because of racist behaviour by home fans, which included Nazi salutes and monkey chants.

Cristiano Ronaldo reached a career landmark on Monday by scoring his 700th career goal in Portugal’s Euro 2020 qualifier at Ukraine. The 34-year-old scored a penalty as Portugal lost 2-1.

International Cricket Council readmits Zimbabwe….

The International Cricket Council has readmitted Zimbabwe as a member following a three-month ban. Zimbabwe, who failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup, were suspended from ICC events in July because of political interference. They are now eligible to play in the men’s Under-19 World Cup in January.
UEFA questions Turkey footballers’ military salute….

Europe’s football governing body UEFA says it will investigate a military salute given by Turkey footballers after Everton star Cenk Tosun scored a goal against Albania. Turkey’s 1-0 win in Istanbul came on Friday, amid Turkish army clashes with Kurdish fighters in northern Syria.
Catalonia suspend football matches….

The Catalan Football Federation has suspended all matches in the region on Monday after nine Catalan separatist leaders were jailed. Spain’s Supreme Court sentenced the leaders for sedition over their role in an independence referendum in 2017. The federation says the suspension is to show solidarity with the leaders and their families and covers all of its official football and futsal matches.

Gauff only qualified for the main draw as a lucky loser after losing in the final round of qualifying.

Brazil were held to a 1-1 friendly draw by Super Eagles of Nigeria. Rangers’ Joe Aribo gave Nigeria the lead in the 35th minute as he slotted past Manchester City’s Ederson. Real Madrid’s Casemiro prodded in from close range to equalize t the 48th minute.

Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei eclipsed the 16-year-old women’s marathon world record held by Britain’s Paula Radcliffe as she retained her Chicago title. The 25-year-old recorded a time of two hours 14 minutes 04 seconds, easily inside Radcliffe’s mark of 2:15:25 set at the London Marathon in 2003.

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have been knocked out of the Shanghai Masters in the quarter-finals. World number one and defending champion Djokovic was beaten by sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, who came from a set down to win 3-6 7-5 6-3. Alexander Zverev beat second seed Federer 6-3 6-7 (7-9) 6-3.
